Our school in Karlstad is proud to have a diverse and energetic staff who work closely with the students to create an environment filled with respect. We have a strong mentoring program in order to see our students as individuals and build warm and friendly classes. The students have about 50% of their lessons in English with the focus mainly on the subjects English, mathematics and science. Even in the corridors and dining hall, English is encouraged as a daily language in the school. The idea is to get students to command the English language when they graduate year 9. Our school believes in language as a key to the future and we focus even on the other modern languages as well. We have a diverse student population coming from 10 different municipalities and over 35 different home languages. IES Karlstad is a fantastic place to work.
Internationella Engelska Skolan i Karlstad started up in 2009, and has grown from approximately 200 students and 15 teachers to 830 students and 60 teachers in those years.
The school has a high academic profile, consistently ranking among the best schools in Värmland in the national tests in year 9. This year we achieved the best results in all of Värmland in both the Swedish national test, as well as the national test in English.Approximately 40% of the teaching staff is foreign, mainly teaching in their native language.
